Follow the Enigma RS project
Jack, our youngest Obsolescence member, is a CS student and has been working on a museum-quality replica of the Enigma Machine. Nothing complements a CS study more than a bit of mechanical engineering, CAD and circuit board design. So Otto and Jurgen (creator of the Enigma touch) are proud to sponsor his work, and we like to share Jack's progress as the project proceeds.
Jack's goal is to produce an Enigma that matches the originals in materials, tolerances, and feel — not just a functional replica, but one that could sit beside the real thing in a display case. Follow along as he tackles rotor machining, reproducing the odd light bulbs, and perfecting the intricate keyboard and lamp panel.
Jack will start blogging on his project from late August, now he has arranged how to make the metal case, the wooden carrying case, and all the other parts involved. His blog will partly be 'how to produce custom parts in small quantities' and part electronics/programming. The rotors are an especially interesting topic.
